Equinox, Terrain, and SRX Being Recalled by General Motors

Equinox, Terrain, and SRX Being Recalled by General Motors

GM Bondholders

When your car does no longer provide the necessary safety that you need, it’s no longer worth driving or even keeping. The automotive manufacturers also realize this and take a quick action when they discover that their products have a defect.

The same thing happens to General Motors when they have to recall their product. Not only one product being recalled, but three products, simultaneously. General Motors is recalling their triplets in crossovers line: Chevrolet Equinox, GMC Terrain, and Cadillac SRX, concerning the safety belt defect. The defect is about cracked buckle anchor in the seat belt that might result in facture when moved in certain condition. This fracture could cause the buckle anchor to separate, resulting in the loose seat belt. If that happens, the seat belt can no longer restrain the passengers or drivers when there’s a crash or accident and the victims might suffer from secondary impact.

In accident, when the car hits other cars, trees, or walls, it’s called as primary impact. When people inside the car collided with something else inside the car, it’s called as secondary impact.

The recall is expected to start before January 18, 2011. The owners of these three models could bring their vehicles to the dealers and have the parts replaced for free.

Technology VS Safety? What Do You Want in Your Car?

GTR-Safety-Car-05

Wouldn’t it be nice if technology and automotive industry can work together to handle the daily problems, which may look simple yet quite annoying? Wouldn’t it be nice if there’s such thing as flying cars, for example, to deal with daily traffic problems? Or automatic cars that can drive by themselves so that tired drivers could rest and continue their trip without being afraid of accidents. Sounds very convenient, isn’t it?

Well, despite the convenience provided by technology, there’re some down sides of it. Some cars today have automatic brake that calculates the possibility of collision.  However, this automatic brake doesn’t always give satisfying result of saving the driver and preventing accidents. Instead, they are the actual culprit behind some of those accidents.

Another down side of the technology is that it’s very expensive. Of course it sounds great – not to mention also environment friendly – to have a car which uses corn oil or chocolate as the fuel. But imagine how much money will be spent to produce such cars. Imagine the research, the experiment, the tests…all of them cost a fortune!

Having a cool sophisticated car is everyone’s dream. Who wouldn’t? But maybe we’re not ready to have them now since it’s quite expensive and the infrastructural development isn’t ready yet.
